Project 3: Introduction and Brief | #One

What is Project 3?

Project 3 is a two month long assignment from university for the upcoming semester #6. While my mentor is Mr Manish (full known unknown so far..) for this project, it seems we are free to go around and get feedback from anyone and everyone. To an extent that helps the project too -  if you think about it. The more angles you have to your project, the more robust and foolproof it will be in the end. I mean, I wouldn't want my project to go with logical flaws (atleast) to the D&AD office and get rejected for something that someone here, maybe in my class could have rectified and helped me with. So there are going to be quotes and feedback recorded from a lot of folks in this project.

What is the D&AD New Bloods Award?

D&AD represents global creative, design and advertising communities and celebrates brilliance in commercial creativity.
The New Blood Award is apparently based on the theme "Everything starts with a pencil" which is also shown in their short 20 second promo video for the awards.

The Brief

The most important and delicate part of the project. I wrong step or one misinterpreted word could lead to a really amazing happy accident or a terrible end product. But the journey matters right? So lets see what we have here-

Complete Monotype Brief

Monotype:

Monotype creates typefaces and technologies that help people tell their stories - in any language, on any device, and with a clear voice.

The Challenge:

Take a cause you believe in and use the power of type to make a difference. Design with typography to agitate, educate and organize the world and your audience. Use typography to help people believe in your cause and its purpose; to motivate and inspire people, in a relevant way, to your cause; and above all, to make an impact.

A rough guide from the Tutor's pack is what I will use to keep a check on myself throughout the project. While following these guidelines I'll also keep my blog posts and Project 3 updates in the same order.

Design Process:

  1. The design process is pretty straight forward! Breakdown the brief - know it in and out.
  2. Brainstorm and come to a conclusive topic
  3. Visual Thinking and Ideation
  4. Research
  5. Rough Visualizations
  6. Finalizing ideas
  7. Execution
  8. Exporting
  9. Compilation of document
  10. Presentation

But how are we gonna keep a track? By this blog. Luckily, my blog isn't popular or anything so I'm not afraid someone's gonna look at my process and use it to beat me at the D&AD Awards.

It would be tempting to win the pencil though and go to the New Blood Academy.
