While interning at Vernan Films I did a short yet powerful project for a singer named Harpreet. I created the album art cover for his new album. The album is produced by RandomMaharasa and the songs were written by some very talanted people.

This scrapped version of the album art was never used but a different more "busy" version was used instead as it appealed the musician's producer and audience.

'I draw letters. Whats your Superpower?'

I did it quickly with the water based brush that I received just a couple of weeks ago. Ever since I've picked Graphic Design as my major at the university (just about a couple of days ago)
I've been interested in almost everything that i didn't choose (like Film, Animation, Interactive design) and what not. Maybe I'm worried i made a premature decision without doing much research and just following my gut feeling. As far as I can imagine if everything falls apart and i realized everything i chose (and my gut feeling) was just total shit I still have enough interest and excitement about lettering and Typography that i shall be fine. So I decided to do this piece to pay respect to that one thing that brings me to my drawing table everyday.

Hope you have already found something that keeps you going too.
Have a good one folks! :)

Typographic design that spans beautifully across the T-shirt. The contrast and roughness of the graphics and the shirt color brings out the design while the negative space helps save ink.

The design will be soon available for sale on my online store that I'm currently working on - fingers crossed!

The Making

Initial idea for typography

Detailed precision while talking out the extra pieces of masking tape out.

Everypiece that came out of the artwork can be seen in this picture around the typography.

Final Artwork

Final piece: 30cm X 20cm. Poster Paint and masking tape.
Borrowed a few touch markers from a friend and ended up trying them out on my art journal.
20 Minutes, 62 airplanes and 144 Black Triangles later - I present you the "Paper Planes"!
80GSM Paper. 12" x 8". 62 Paper Planes.

A typographic experiment to write a letter in boiling tar. I chose to wrote K in a serif font so it still retains its form while I distort the shape with bubbles and drops of thick black tar!

Brush pen on 80GSM sheet. 6' x 9"

I had 20 minutes to spare on my computer today. Finished it in 15 minutes and drank coffee for the rest of the 5.

Learning Japanese is starting to pay off in the communication design projects that I do. MAFGA, an Osaka based organisation, helps immigrants settle down in Osaka and deal the culture while learning Japanese Language also. I happened to be working on a set of bilingual business card for employees at MAFGA.
Business Card design for MAFGA

The paper is 60GSM handmade recycled sheet. The paper holds the ink really well for the brush stroke effect I intended to give to the name ”都子灯野”。

More concepts and work in progress coming up soon...

Concrete jungle

A concept I quickly doodled in the metro on my way to college. The isometric cubes are the concrete jungle we live in. While the buildings around us have some differences between then, they still have lots of similarities and its a trouble trying to find what you are looking for.

Bootcamp!

The storytelling boot camp has started and all the amateur and weak will come out as narrators and story tellers by the end of the workshop on 17th October.

Five days of back to back story telling theory and "mini" projects based on the theme of "Treasure" will take us through different ways and techniques of story telling and the acquired skills will be shown off at the Story Telling expo on the last day of the boot camp.

Day 1:

The first day required us to go through a theory session about different kinds of stories, tales, sagas, etc. before we started to learn about the difference between the roles of a narrator and a story teller. How the sequence of a story is distorted to create interest because its not just about making stories its about making interesting stories.

Interactive Brainstorming session-

Requirements:
Large sheet of paper
Tape/Glue
Markers
Disposable Container
Ink
Rubber Ball
A large group of people (Intellectual beings - if available)

1 Use tape or glue to stick the sheet of paper onto the floor.
2. Write the theme of the session in the middle of the sheet.
3. One person in charge will hold the container of Ink and dip the rubber ball in the ink and throw it on the sheet. Wherever the ball makes an ink mark write down your word/idea related to treasure.
4. The person standing on the opposite side of the thrower will catch the ball and dip it into ink and throw it on the sheet and write their idea.
5. Repeat till everyone in the group has written their ideas or the sheet holds sufficient number of ideas.
6. Display the sheet for everyone to add their ideas later.

Final outcome displayed

List of all stories on display

6 words story

Everyone had to make stories using just 6 words.
Stories were not judged but were discussed and alternate ideas were also presented by the faculty member.

Conclusion: It is relatively easy to make sarcastic, sad or negative stories using very few words.

"Mister "Glass half empty" died alone".

"A family of two went to zoo!"

Quotes guess game

We were given quotes from different movies, cartoons, famous poets, writers and public figures and we had to guess the name of the person who said that quote.

For example -
"Mr Wilson" in a strikingly familiar sound was easily recognized as a popular quote from the cartoon series called Denis the Mennis.
"Tum mujhe khoon do, mein tumhe adaazi dunga" was a famous quote by Subash Chandra Bose.

Letter to self

The small exercise made the campers imagine themselves as the 60 year old version of themselves and to write a letter to the current self. The exercise made us imagine a complete different version of ourselves that we have no relevant clue or information about. This was an interesting exercise as a warm up for upcoming creative exercises.

Story types and uses

Different story types were discussed along with their individual characteristics and their uses in brief.

Introduction to story pitch

Character designed through vandalism.
We were taught and given a presentation to understand what pre-production process of a movie, animation and games as well as how it fits into our design process for the story telling project of character design that was achieved through vandalizing photos of fellow campers.

Character Design | Environment/World Design | Journey | Plot of purpose
is to be designed for the vandalized characters from the previous exercises.
Started with a simple and innocent Star Book that I made a few months ago. I ended up doodling this typographic hand drawn illustration using the form and proportions of the star book.

The 4th Nan, ladies and gentlemen!

8' x 8' star book with 10 sheets of paper.

Ever since I picked up Fundamentals of Typography (AVA academia series) in the University library I've fallen in love with hand drawn typography. Although I know its helpful to use rulers and other things to make these look more accurate and geometric but I like it this way. Improving them later on computer seems to do the job eventually. Enjoy!

12" x 8" on corrugated cardboard piece

One bird is an experimental artwork that I did recently. It uses a wacom tablet (or any kind of pen tablet really) and adobe illustrator. The artwork in total took me about 25 to 30 minutes to finish. I was fairly satisfied with the result.

The same technique can be used to create more of such stylized
drawings and illustrations.

Well I was going through an old sketchbook and I fell in love with this doodle again! :D
Enjoy the treat!
