While interning at Vernan Films I did a short yet powerful project for a singer named Harpreet. I created the album art cover for his new album. The album is produced by RandomMaharasa and the songs were written by some very talanted people.

This scrapped version of the album art was never used but a different more "busy" version was used instead as it appealed the musician's producer and audience.

What is Project 3?

Project 3 is a two month long assignment from university for the upcoming semester #6. While my mentor is Mr Manish (full known unknown so far..) for this project, it seems we are free to go around and get feedback from anyone and everyone. To an extent that helps the project too -  if you think about it. The more angles you have to your project, the more robust and foolproof it will be in the end. I mean, I wouldn't want my project to go with logical flaws (atleast) to the D&AD office and get rejected for something that someone here, maybe in my class could have rectified and helped me with. So there are going to be quotes and feedback recorded from a lot of folks in this project.

What is the D&AD New Bloods Award?

D&AD represents global creative, design and advertising communities and celebrates brilliance in commercial creativity.
The New Blood Award is apparently based on the theme "Everything starts with a pencil" which is also shown in their short 20 second promo video for the awards.

The Brief

The most important and delicate part of the project. I wrong step or one misinterpreted word could lead to a really amazing happy accident or a terrible end product. But the journey matters right? So lets see what we have here-

Complete Monotype Brief

Monotype:

Monotype creates typefaces and technologies that help people tell their stories - in any language, on any device, and with a clear voice.

The Challenge:

Take a cause you believe in and use the power of type to make a difference. Design with typography to agitate, educate and organize the world and your audience. Use typography to help people believe in your cause and its purpose; to motivate and inspire people, in a relevant way, to your cause; and above all, to make an impact.

A rough guide from the Tutor's pack is what I will use to keep a check on myself throughout the project. While following these guidelines I'll also keep my blog posts and Project 3 updates in the same order.

Design Process:

  1. The design process is pretty straight forward! Breakdown the brief - know it in and out.
  2. Brainstorm and come to a conclusive topic
  3. Visual Thinking and Ideation
  4. Research
  5. Rough Visualizations
  6. Finalizing ideas
  7. Execution
  8. Exporting
  9. Compilation of document
  10. Presentation

But how are we gonna keep a track? By this blog. Luckily, my blog isn't popular or anything so I'm not afraid someone's gonna look at my process and use it to beat me at the D&AD Awards.

It would be tempting to win the pencil though and go to the New Blood Academy.

'Think Fresh'

Saturdays are great. Aren't they?

Reading about the Theseus of Ship Philosophy also known as Theseus' paradox - If an old ship that has seen all the corners of the ocean and fought plenty of waves in its times has to retire and repaired with every nail and wooden board replaced by a new one. Whether the ship would remain the same if it were entirely replaced, piece by piece, Wondering what would happen if the original planks were gathered up after they were replaced, and used to build a second ship. Would the second ship have the soul of the old ship or be a completely new one? - I wonder what happens to people who move from their home country to a completely new place. Cultural shocks, new people, new customs and traditions. They don't just come out of their comfort zones to adopt their new habitat but they change themselves piece by piece. Does that people still remain the person they were before? Or the soul has left their body and a new one lives there now?

I'm unsure as the only times I've been exposed to the cultures and people I don't agree with have been quite brief so to speak. So they have been quite educational and taught me to be more tolerant of others. While that being said it also makes me less than qualified to judge this theory about those who moved out, changed or are changing in their new habitat. Food for thought, ain't it? Lemme know how you feel about it and as always...
Have a good one, Folks!

'I draw letters. Whats your Superpower?'

I did it quickly with the water based brush that I received just a couple of weeks ago. Ever since I've picked Graphic Design as my major at the university (just about a couple of days ago)
I've been interested in almost everything that i didn't choose (like Film, Animation, Interactive design) and what not. Maybe I'm worried i made a premature decision without doing much research and just following my gut feeling. As far as I can imagine if everything falls apart and i realized everything i chose (and my gut feeling) was just total shit I still have enough interest and excitement about lettering and Typography that i shall be fine. So I decided to do this piece to pay respect to that one thing that brings me to my drawing table everyday.

Hope you have already found something that keeps you going too.
Have a good one folks! :)

From a hand painted xylophone to portraits of Mahatma Gandhi carved into 12feet high wooden walls.

Gandhi Smriti has a huge collection of interactive and static installations. While it explains things in a playful way using electric instruments and unimaginable number of projectors screening scenes from his life on different walls it does not fail to give details on life events and habits.

The exhibition space was considerably large with little clues for navigation (pardon me if I missed something from the exhibition).

Due to lack of time the staff tour guide helped us look at the whole museum space in the best way we could.
